Free Changing Table, But Please Don't Tell My Daughter Where I Got It From

My oldest daughter is expecting her first bundle of joy (a little girl) at the end of April.  Last month while out with my friends, we came across a changing table that was sitting by the curb for trash day.  Like all good trash pickers, we waited for darkness to fall before going back to inspect it.  It was solid and sturdy, BINGO!  We hauled it to the nearest friend's house since it wouldn't fit in the car.  I was so excited about it and the best thing was, my daughter was actually going to be visiting from Kansas...driving here to Florida....that meant she could take it back with her!  Her nursery colors are a pale green, cream and brown.  Since I handed down her little brother's crib to her, I knew I had to go with cream because there was no way I would be able to match the cherry wood of the crib.  Here's a before pic:

I figured if she did not like the end result, I would cut off some of the top and make it into a bar...fortunately, she liked it!  This is after two coats of spray paint:
I am not a patient person, so waiting between coats was torture for me.  After a gazillion coats (next time I will start with primer) and six cans of spray paint, it looked like this:

My camera has been dropped one too many times, so I apologize for the quality of the pics.  A new camera is on my list!  I also made the wooden picture holder on the top shelf.  I got my idea from Shanty2Chic and put my own spin on it to fit in with a nursery.

Have an awesome Monday!

  5. Oh My Libby! That is amazing! I love your term Trashtastic;I am going to add it to my vocabulary along with the other one "Sidewalk Boutique". I fully agree with you the wait time for paint is a little frustrating. Why can't we just finish the job NOW! :) The hardest for me to wait for was all my door handles. It took me all weekend because if I messed that up I would be spending a fortune to buy new ones.

Thank you for linking up to my $0 party. Your contribution is amazing!
