A Simple Project

I have a couple of things going on, one is AWESOME and the other is devastating.  My hubby is coming home tomorrow from overseas for a three week R&R (he returns overseas in mid-August).  However, my brother-in-law, who is fighting lung cancer, is very, very sick and hospitalized in critical care right now.  He is the father of my niece, Randa Bliss, who just returned to Kansas from a visit with us.  To keep my head from exploding with stress and grief, I have tried to keep my mind busy and my body moving.  There is nothing like feeling helpless when you are far away from the people you love and want to support.  Please say a few prayers for my family.

The chevron stencil is from Tatertots and Jello

Easy project to hold important tiny pieces of papers that may get lost around the computer.

Thanks for visiting.

PICNIC BLANKET? YES, PLEASE! AND A FEATURE!

I am being featured At The Picket Fence: Inspiration Friday!
Thank you soooo much Vanessa and Heather!

I found Kathleen's, from Twig & Thistle, picnic blanket and I had to make one!
This is Kathleen's, isn't it gorgeous?

Well, unfortunately mine doesn't look anything like her's, but I like it anyway...and I'm not completely finished.  I bought a drop cloth from Home Depot back in March with ideas of making something out of it.  I had seen all these curtains and ottomans redone out of drop cloths, so I was pretty excited to buy one.  Then I got it home and remembered that I can't sew....my windows are too big for the size I bought....I don't have an ottoman....dang!  Yeah, it ended up at the bottom of my craft box.  Then I found this lovely picture on Pinterest and went to Twig & Thistle.  She made it out of a drop cloth!!!!!  I had one plus paint, so I got to work!

Picked my paint.  Went for summery colors, persimmon red and araucana teal.

"The Taping"  It sucked.  This is where I could have used Sarah B.  She gets all these angles and she would have had a brilliant (or logical anyway) idea of how to do equal chevron stripes.  I, however, did not....nor did I have the patience to wait until today and ask her to help me.  I'm like that....then it gets messed up, but I just embrace my imperfectiveness (that is now a word, you have my permission to use it).
Oh...and Hagan decided to help me...without my permission.  *Sigh*

My only choice was to embrace Hagan's contribution.  Really, once that drop cloth sucks up the paint, it is staying on there.  That is a good thing and bad thing.  Here are some better pictures of the picnic blanket outside.

I'm going to add more chevron stripes, I'm thinking yellow.  I can't wait to use it at our free concerts in the park that we have every Friday here in my 'hood.  Woop woop!

A Perfectly Crazy Zombie Party

We had a Zombie party on Sunday night....no, no reason.  We just wanted to watch some great (Zombieland) and some bad (Dawn of the Dead) zombie movies.  I'm always looking for a reason to have a party, so this was perfect!  My girls thought Randa Bliss and I went a little overboard for a movie night, but we had so much fun making everything!  Here are some pictures of the night:

Some close ups of the food
Infected Eyeballs (oreo truffles)
Human Meat Tray

Toxic Waste Dip (Queso)

Zombie Heads

Mad Zombie Brains

Zombie Fingers with blood sauce (breadsticks and marinara)

The Drink
Infected Blood *Drink at your own risk* (tropical punch Koolaid)

Feast of zombies (LOL)

Haley says that she lives by this rule everyday because of her little brother!

I can't imagine what the neighbors thought when this was out drying in the driveway!

Sarah B.'s cup....I think she thought that would save her from the zombies....
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed our Zombie party!  Now I'm off to look for some G.D. Twinkies!!!

See this girl?  The one on your left?  That's my Sarah B.  She's pretty rad.

This is us tailgating (actually parking garaging) before a Bon Jovi concert.  That's right...don't be jelly that we saw Jon in his tight leather pants!
Why do our clothes match in both pictures???  Hahaha

Anyway, Sarah B. has Silly (that's our name for her Silhouette) and she was "such a great gal" to let me and Randa Bliss from The Random World of a Free Bird use it for a couple of projects.  Well....to be honest, when I say let us use it, I mean, we told Sarah B. what we wanted to do and she did it with Silly.  I'm WAY TOO SCARED of that machine, but I do want my own SO BAD!

First project:  A shirt for my precious granddaughter, Kayden, to wear when she meets her Papa for the first time ever next month.  Have you ever tried finding a shirt with "grandpa" on it????  Impossible!  I bought this cute little romper from Target ($6).
We, and by we, I mean, Sarah B., designed this:

Oh yeah, I'm keeping that for a stencil!
Here it is!  A custom romper for $6!!!

So cute!  I cannot wait for my husband to meet Kayden!

Randa Bliss wanted me to make a sign for her cousin who JUST HAD HER BABY TODAY!  Happy Birthday Baby Lydia!  Her mommy wanted a sign to hang above the crib, so Sarah B. used Silly to create "Sleep well."  I first spray painted the board Rich Plum, then painted over that with a light lavender.  I used Mod Podge to glue the letters down.  Now this part is important....I sanded and distressed the sign, then put on a layer of Mod Podge to protect it.  If you do that, the letters will look aged too.
I really hope she likes it!

Really cute barrettes made by Sarah B!

Aren't they adorable?????  Just like her!
Thanks for being such a great friend...not just because you let me use Silly, but because you are one awesome chick with a heart of gold!
YOU ROCK!
