On my last trip to Ikea, I scored a large cabinet door for $5 out of the "as is" section. I was super psyched, but didn't really have any ideas for it. Then my niece spotted three wire baskets at Goodwill the next day and an idea came to me right there in the glass aisle.
I started with a standard wooden cabinet door with a walnut finish....sorry, I forgot a before pic. I sprayed a light coat of white primer all over...once again, no picture :/ Then started with my yellow paint.

Absolutely LOVE this color!
I left the center unpainted so I could add this:
Before I added the chalkboard paint, I distressed the painted areas. I used three coats of chalkboard paint.Have I said that I love this color??? I did? Okay, so now I'll say that I LOVE how it looks distressed! Here is where the three wire baskets come in...we saw some organization ideas in Ikea using wire baskets, so while we were there I picked up some hooks. Shot them with Krylon's Oil Rubbed Bronze, screwed them into the cabinet and now I have this:
TADA!
I know it's far from original...most likely been done before....but I absolutely LOVE it!!!
What would you store in the baskets? I may even hang mason jars from the hooks...that would be cute too. LOVE!

Carri, I'm POSITIVE you have probably done something like this before! I always love your cabinet door redo's!
ReplyDeleteThat looks awesome! I wish I had a crafty eye for things like that!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty...and I love the little baskets hanging down from it! Great color...great job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet idea, Carri!! You mixed a perfect combination of LUV: pastel paint, chalkboard paint, perfect distressing, and wire baskets! Great job! :)

Thank you Carmella and Laurie! I wish you could see the color better, but I'm still using my cell phone camera so the colors are pretty muted on here. I'm really liking yellow lately :)

Very nice. I love the color and the rustic baskets make a nice contrast.

I love that color too! How did you distress it? Did you just sand it or did you antique it? Love the whole project!
